The Future of Port Washington Is Being Decided Now
Port Washington is about to change in a big way.
A massive data center complex is being fast-tracked on the edge of our city. Acres of farmland and open space soon to be replaced by concrete, cooling towers, and constant energy demands.
These facilities will draw millions of gallons of water from our municipal supply, the same system that feeds our homes, schools, and businesses, all pulled from Lake Michigan, one of the world’s most precious freshwater resources. They’ll require enormous electricity loads, straining our power grid and locking our city into decades of higher energy consumption.
Meanwhile, negotiations are unfolding behind closed doors. Developers are seeking tax incentives that could shift costs onto residents, while environmental studies remain incomplete or undisclosed.
This project could permanently alter the landscape, the lake, and the quiet character of Port Washington. Before these decisions are finalized, the people who live here deserve answers. We deserve to know how this will affect our water, our taxes, our environment, and our children’s future.
Now is the moment to pay attention. Once the land is gone and the deals are signed, we can’t take them back.
